Does anyone remember what factory ford parts it would take to upgrade the drums and backing plates to "self adjusting" drum brakes?

I think I remember someone saying 60's galaxie backing plates and drums are the ticket?

Is there a more modern car that would work as a donor for the backing plates and drums?

BTW, this will be going in my 54 stude coupe once I find a 4.11 carrier for it.

What rear end, 8" or 9"? What size brakes 9" 10" or 11"?Small bearing or Big bearing?

Use Wagner #283 shoes, drilled for the self adjuster mechanism, use Wagner self adjuster kit F98370/1, and wagner Combikit F87351. That should supply all the parts you need. These parts are listed for a F100 with 11" by 1 3/4" brakes. This will fit the stock drums and backing plates.

If you want 11 by 2 brakes, use backing plates and drums for a 61 to 64 full size ford.

Sorry I did not include enough detail.

9", small bearing housing from a 1957 ford sedan.  I dont remember the brake size, and the rear axle is a few miles from me.

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks!  That was definately what I was looking for.

You can also find the 11x2 assemblies on early '70s Torino wagons, just did that on a '57 rear going in a Model A.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity meet.

thanks, Gene

Yes, as long as you have 11" backing plates.
