It can't be the brakes

Last night one of my buds and I were heading to the local burrito joint in his van (mid 90's vintage Dodge) and he said the brakes were acting funny. Sometimes when he comes to a stop the van shudders a bit and sometimes it even dies.

I didn't think much of it at the time but sure enough at the next stop light the van shuddered and died. It acted exactly like it came to a full stop with a standard transmission still in gear, only the van has an automatic trans.

I'm thinking it has a lockup convertor that occasionally isn't unlocking when the brakes are applied.

What do you think?

I agree, I had one do that on a GMC pickup, but it only did it a few times before it locked up permanetly. (actually on my way to the trans shop) By then the damage was done...G.M payed half of the $1600 repair bill.

I'm thinking you could be right, symptoms are certainly correct.

It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

Had the same thing happen on an '86 chevy wagon, torque converter lockup unit wasn't unlocking at lower speed.
