I purchased a old Jubilee 90 bull horn and I suspect it is a 6volt horn. I want to put it on my street rod and cannot find out if I need a voltage resistor or voltage reducer to use. I have momentarily hooked it up to 12 volts and it works but the wires becomes hot very quickly. What am I doing wrong?

What size wires did you use ?

Everything that I've read, and past experience says NEVER run any horn(s) w/o a relay to save the switch contacts from arcing, due to the high amp draw of horns.  If you indeed have a 6 volt horn needing a voltage reducer, make sure it's rated to handle the amp load of the horn.
I'd also contact Ron Francis or Painless to get some advice; they get a LOT of "what-if" calls & are a wealth of knowledge & info.

The problem is I do not know the amp load of the horn.  These are some of the things I need to know, now I will hook up a relay to the horn also. I changed the wire size to a 10 gauge also. Thanks for the reply.
