LOL, that's been a pet peeve for me too. I had to get out the owners manual to figure out how to turn on the wipers in my wifes new Vue. I could see the wiper control I just couldn'r make the wipers stay on. The same thing about the gas cap location, it SHOULD be on the drivers side on ALL vehicles. I have four vehicles and three are on the correct side and one is on the passengers side.   :x   But then again, I'm the guy that put a foot operated  dimmer switch on the dash of my '40 Pickup

Darn, I thought the Safety * had passed a law awhile back to regulate all
those controls into the same place on new cars. Guess I missed that one.

Fortunately my Silverado Trucks are all the same generation and equipment so they are all the same.

Think my biggest problem is just going from one of my automatics into my Charger 4spd stick. I keep musing on converting the Charger to an auto, but I just let it go.

Also fun in my Chrysler is the push button auto, I have reached to punch the dash on some of my other vehicles. That can be a chuckle.

Most all my rides have the key ignition in the lower right hand area, either column or dash, but my 40 has the ignition in the old starter push button hole on the left. Course my 40 also still has the original column lock.

I'll have to admit that I've been driving an 02 Chrysler PT Cruiser since the summer of 01 and have yet to really know what all the controls are or where they are at. I'm lucky I can do the turn signals and sometimes I get the wipers to work, but it might take me awhile to get the hilo beans to change. Still not sure how the rear window wiper and defrost work.

There was a time when I was changing out all the lock cylinders on my Mopars so I had one key for all of them and my 50's 60's chevys also had one key amongst them, guess that was dangerous but it worked for me.

My dad had a 50 Buick, and a 58 Buick, the same key fit both. They came that way. I bough a 62 Chevy, and my key fit his cars too.

Another time, I was working in a construction yard, the boss lost his keys to the trucks, which were all GM. The keys in my pocket for my cars, between the ignition keys, and trunk keys, fit all but one of  the trucks. Later that day he found his keys.

You guys have problems. My daily driver is  LHD 66Mustang ,and we drive on the LH  side of the road in Australia ,indicator stick is on my LH side of the column, shifter on the right, look up to the right at my suitably angled  inside rear view mirror . Then I jump into my wife,s RHD vehicle, have to look to the left at the internal mirror ,shifter is to my left ,indicators are on the right of the column.  Got used to it all in the end, we have random alcohol/drug  testing here, a "booze bus" is set up and a road lane is blocked  ,you are waved on or waved into a queue depending on how many vehicles are waiting via some "witches hats" and tested by Police in a line on the "drivers side". In the LHD Mustang, it is amusing when they reach in and go to test the passenger, suddenly realising the driver is on "the wrong side".........Frank.

UGLY OLDS

The last fleet I ran had a mix of light--medium & heavy duty GMC's....All diesel...They ALL had engine shut down systems with a warning lamp--Hour Meters ..Hi-Idle systems with a warning lamp..Even the boss's personal trucks ...All but the light duty's had manual PTO's with a "Big Red Knob" on the cable & an indicator light...
Ether start systems...etc...  We went to great pains to make every vehicle dashboard IDENTICAL to avoid confusion...Every light in every truck meant the same thing...Boy...Were they angry when I rewired the ether start systems to work in the "crank" position ONLY....   No more "hill climbing assist " button

58 Yeoman

My Ranger pu, Dodge beater van and the '58 all have column shifts.  When I get into the GF's Chrysler Cirrus, I invariably reach to the right side of the column to put it in gear, and grab the wiper stalk instead.  Why don't they make all cruise controls the same also.  Some stay on all the time (dodge minivan), but the Ranger has to be turned on every time the truck is started.

Remember the late 50's Fords with the ignition on the left?
