1999 tahoe lock ignition cylinder HELP

I have this in my shop. The lock cylinder is stuck in the off position.  anybody know what to do to get the cylinder out? I won't  so I can't go by the book.

 All that info is great except I annot turn the lock to remove it!!!!!!

i have not been formaly introduced to that exact installation yet...

i can explain that when you change the inition lock cylinder on a vats system... you need to measure the resistace of the orignal key and get the new lock cylinders non vats key cut on to the proper vats blank.. (15 differnt values)  

maybe some of the gm service techs that are members..


since i have not had experiance... i wonder if they turn to the ??? is to align the rack before you remove the cylinder...

Don If you can't turn the cylinder or it's jammed you'll have to change the cylinder and the upper column bowl
There's 2 antitheft bolts that attach that upper bowl to the column
You'll have to die grind or drill the head of the bolt off and you get new ones with the new assembly
I've tried to remove cylinders at the dealer by drilling them out and picking away at them but the first nick you put in that bowl will prevent a new cylinder from working

Jeff,
I got the old one out sooooo, we will try the new lock cylinder. I see the bolts and know what my next move will be if this doesn't work!

Just a quick update for those whao care. I was given the wrong lock cylinder at the auto parts store. To begin with I was suppose to be getting a AC Delco, but it was subsituted with a Standard part. I should have checked Rock Auto and see if it was a compatible number. :cry: So, tomorrow, I will put in a GM part and program the passlock system.
