AOD?

I want to use a 302/AOD combination in my 40 ford truck project.What doaner car or truck, year model should I look for? Would like to stay in the carburator year's.I really dont want to git into mixing and matching Ford part's.I've been there

I used a 1983 before. That engine had the small port heads and the non- electric trans. I believe 85 is the last year for a carb but there's a few more years of the aod before it changed to electric.

The AOD was non-electric till around 92.  I've used a later FI engine and put a carb on it and it ran fine, not sure if the cam was optimum for a carb, but it had the roller cam so I didn't have to worry about cam wear with todays oils.  I'm not sure when Ford started using the roller cam in the 5.0
