lancer??? what year tony.. i can see it in my mind... what kind of charging system..
factory mopar with a single field wire from the mechanical regualtor??(wires on both ends of the regulator)

electronic regulator mopar with a 2 pin triangular rubber connector on the face of the regulator

or a gm 10 si  internaly regulated alternator..

or the newest  cs 130 style with a multi pin conector???

i would think the 10 si  or cs130 are the only ones that might get started with an external lamp to excite the regualtor. if so these dont even need to be seen....just stashing one up under the dash is all that is needed...

a 168 or 194 bulb in a holder is correct amount of draw in the circut.  the alternator on on end and the switched ignition or switched accessory on the other.

just another thought...

in junkyarding.. rembember 79 to 85 eldorados with the vinal top option and the long lamp on the c pillar..  those are fiberoptic fed and it uses a 168 bulb or simular in a holder in the trunk... that connects with two wires and an enclosed hi temp plastic housing and allows a fiberoptic bundle to be  plugged in... clipping that out with some of the bundle will allow a remote warning lamp to be placed almost anywhere.  just a thought...
tell us more about the charging system.

i think i may just have to drive out there and help fix some of your stuff with you.

did you assemble the alternaotr??? some one wire regulators will work with a lamp, some wont..

hook a 194 in a socket to the proper term on the side and the other end o to the bat term for a trial to see if it starts charging faster.

some rebuilders use a regualtor that is a normal unit but will start charging at fast idle to avoid comebacks do to falty car wiring...

the old differnce in price was $2.50 for a cheep 3 wire or 5 bucks for a real one wire regulator. to improve reliability i have even installed 17si one wire regualtors that have additional current capibilitys for the larger rotors.

they look the same... and unfortunatily my source for alternator parts had their supplier get bought up. effectively putting them out of bizz.
the new guys need references from 3 rebuilders within 5 miles of your location before you can buy anything. this limits smaller shops.. wayne stop ranting....

wayne,

I've already tested the wire hook up on the alt.  I could wire up a dome light I guess.  LOL

I do not want to cut into the dash of the Lancer.  Thinking about an add on light in a hole already in the dash metal near the cluster.

Most of the indicator lights I have found  are the cheesy plastic type / design.

Then you find the billet stuff for lights.  Guess I need to look at some old cars or cut up something I have around here.

:!:

heyyyy, how about a e-brake light or an emergancy flasher light from a 66ish ford?
don't have one or i'd send it to ya.....
they've got a nice chrome bezel around 'em  too.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it\'s still on my list

with this set up.. you only need to drill a 1/8" or a little bigger hole to place the end of the trimmed bundle of fiberoptics into.. the bulb is inches  or feet away from the dash...

this is the simular to the systems on cads and lincolns that have turn and headlamp signals on the front fenders to let the old geezers know that the turn signal or high beams are on... lincolns had a simular set up for the tail lights that was in the back window.  let you know when you looked in the mirror that your rear lamps were working...

wow now that i think about it.. i seem to recall a t3 bulb (194 shape) that had a lense in the tip to focus light out the top. probably made for the fiberoptic systems.

my thought processes are sometimes not translated to the text properly.

i need to go to the junk yard next wek.. i'll see if i can find some as there are tons of eldorados out there. and i need a 90 degree speedo cable or two also.
