for my 50 f1 I plan on using a stainless steel door that is used for accessing plumbing in walls. I will need to change the size to fit the m/c better.  not sure if you can buy them but my 53 chevy has a nice door on the floor for the batter access that would work nice BUT I do not think the after market sells them ED ke6bnl

Piece of 18 gage stainless.

Cut to size so it covers the floor opening.

Drill two holes, one at each end.

Retain cover with a couple of stainless #8 sheet metal screws.
Short ones so they don't stick out too far.

Remove one to swing the plate for access.
Loosen the other to allow swing.

Probably less than $5. and an hour of your time....
