Rrumbler

I 'member those - both styles.  I grew up in the greater Los Angeles area through the forties and fifties, and one of my grandpas was an independent milk man; he didn't use a Divco, but some of his associates did.  I seem to remember that there were two unusual types of control systems used in them; one was a sort of tiller stick and a single pedal for the clutch and brake, and the same pedal setup with a steering wheel.  Both were "stand-up-and-drive" systems.  There were also the more conventional systems, especially in their later post-war production.  I can recall waiting with almost uncontainable excitement, as the Helms truck, like the one pictured above, came down the street with the chime going to announce his way.  And, yes, the jelly donut was a favorite treat.
Rrumbler - Older, grouchier, broken; but not completely dead, yet.
