Hi all,

I have this '81 Camaro rear end that I'm rebuilding. I've bought all new hardware to redo the drum brakes, i.e.: spring kits, shoes, adjuster kit, drums, etc. etc.. There are 2 items I just can't find anywhere, the first are the backing plates which I'm in the process of rebuilding and the second are those "plunger thingies" that link the brake wheel cylinders to the brake shoes.

My rearend came with rusted and worn backing plates attached, nothing else (The brake shoes had actually rubbed holes through the backing plates) so I don't have those plunger pins.

I've checked the dealer, aftermarket and junk yards. '81 Camaros are getting scarce around here and those you do find in the local junk yards are rusted out hulks.

Any help would be appreciated.

try autozone for a brake kit; they might have one for your car, and it might have those parts in it.

The "Help" section of the parts house carries a lot of little gizmo's like these.

They're called, "links."
I believe the complete name is, "wheel cylinder link."

If you have a sample link to compare you may find other brands work just fine.
