I need a piece of tubing with a flange on one end. This is the finished product, no welding. How was it done?

Secure it in another piece of tube with the id the same as the od of this one.  Have it stick out the end and beat the h**l out of it with one big hammer :D ,

No, but you are on the right track.

You put a collar on the tube, placed it in a press and using a sphere, tuliped the end down too the collar. You then removed the sphere, reinserted in the press and reapplied pressure till it lipped to somewhat 90 degrees. Then hammered the edge till flat.
Then again, maybe that only works in cartoons.
Regardless of how you did it, how'd you keep the tube from splitting along the seam?................Frank

Big lathe, tubing clamped in chuck, flat collar bored maybe .005 over the size of the tubing OD, the collar about 3/4 - 1" thick steel slipped on - protects chuck from heat and impact damage.

Back gears in for slow turning, heat the tubing end and tap out flat as the lathe turns using the collar as an anvil.

Or . . . machine an end piece for interference fit and press it on.
A little JB Weld would assist in retainment.

Or . . . if it's 1 1/2" OD tubing, go to the plumbing store and buy it....

I'd say you probably started with a flare and then beat the flare out flat .Probably on a piece of oak with a hole cut in it that was the O.D. of the pipe. The flare was probably started over a trailer hitch ball. No welding doesn't mean you didn't use heat. GPster

You guys have pretty much figured it out. I made an aluminum collar, slipped it over the tube, and persuaded the tubing to flange with a little heat, and a body hammer.

Next time, visit your friendly neighborhood muffler shop.  Use the taper for the end like fits the exhast manaifold on a small block, then turn the die around and it will flatten out the flange just like you did.  I spend way too much time on one of those pipe benders in my youth.

Since you gave it away before we all could guess, what is it used for?? Stack on your BBQ Grill?

It will be a filler neck on a gas tank. I needed a solder flange.
