Well I have a C4 transmission in my wifes 68 mustang and a 289 engine. the trans will not shift into 3rd till I had driven it about 3 miles. Someone on another site suggested that the govenor was sticking and I removed the tailhousing and it is as free as can be.  I would have to believe I am do for a trans rebuild, any suggestions thanks for your suggestions Ed ke6bnl

hard internal seals on the direct drum.  A common Ford C-4 problem with age.

Dexron or Ford F fluid will work fine. IF your builder requires a certain fluid use it for a warranty reason.

IF 3rd gear was a problem , reverse should have acted funny while cold too.

just an FYI at this point I guess.

...and it's contagious.  I had an 86 Olds Cutlass that had morning sickness on the steering rack.  Wanted to steer itself sometimes.  Must've been in the same garage at one time.

I pulled the transmission yesterday and my boy noticed that there where no quide pins in the engine to locate the transmission, are there suppose to be two guide pins and if so where wood I go to get replacements. seem like an odd ball part. thanks E d
