What type of aluminum are you using to make hoods? how thick? TIA

Geeze I made one for my old model a many years ago but i couldnt tell you now what thickness it was. I do know it was thicker than the steel hoods.
If I had all my old rod action and street rod mags id have the article that got me makin my own hood out of aluminum.

Well, I have some 062 here, but it seems too thin to please me. I'm thinking 083 may be better. this is for a real old sprint car resoration.

Charlie Chops 1940

H-14 half hard, .050" thick. Got a half sheet from Ron Covell for the hood top on the track roadster. It's UPS-able I think his web site is:  http://www.covel.biz

I haven't had a lot of luck with my local sheet metal guy for any thinner than .062". It's workable but tough.

can't remember the alloy,though..

What I have is 6061 T6. I bought it from http://www.allmetalsinc.com/ They're in Adrian mi. I'll do a profile and see how it comes out after bending it.
