I'm still relatively new to this board, so, I'm assuming that you're the goto guy for trannys. I have a 93 caprice wagon with the 4l60e. I did some digging and discovered that impending system failure is indicated by a hard 1-2 shift. I've had this shift for about a year. I finally took it to my mechanic. He changed the filter, pan gasket, vehicle speed sensor and the associated o-ring. As expected, I shelled the tranny after about 2 weeks. I have a 1-2 shift but it goes into neutral on the way to 3rd. His new tech is a GM tranny specialist. How much should a rebuild cost? I know every shop is different, but, a good round number will do. Also, can you recommend a good performance shift kit that will handle a few extra HP and not puke after a few thousand miles? Sorry for the long post but I'm not used to dealing with this new fangled stuff.
Every man should forcibly leave his steel toe boot print on the face of history.

Common failure of the 700 tranny family is the 3 - 4 clutch pack. When it fails there is no 3rd or over-drive

TransGo is the only shift kit I recomend.  4L60E HD2 kit

A Raybestos Z-Pak 3 - 4 clutch pack kit works very well in the "E" trannys.

It is also common for the 1-2 shift check ball to wear through the v-body separator plate.... causes firm 1-2 shift.  Also broken accumilator springs for the 1-2 shift cause firm 1-2.

Thank you very much, sir. That's just the info I was looking for. I'll have my mechanic order one for my tranny.

I just noticed something, should I use the transgo clutch pack or replace it with a raybestos clutch pack?

TransGo does not sell clutch packs, they sell shift kits and related parts for valve bodies
