Cruisin' the Coast has been put on hold for a few years. The office was wiped out by the storm.

In Meridian, MS the Rock-n-Roll Revival has been canceled for Sept. 16-17.

I have not heard about others in the area, but will keep ya posted when I hear about them.

I may think about going to Tampa this year with so many events canceled in this area. Oct. 14-16. That is if I can get there from here. May have to go through Georgia to get there.

A street rod is a vehicle made before 1949 that is modified with modern stuff: bigger motors; newer trans; updated suspension, front & rear; a/c.
Following is a street rod plus definition: No known definition because it changes.

I watched the most recent "My Classic Car" episode with Cruisin' the Coast just as the extent of the devastation was becoming clear.  It looked like a really neat area and a great place for a cruise.  Many of the places mentioned in the cruise coverage have also been topics on the news.  Katrina was truly the "big one" that experts have been warning about for years.

Did the last scene have Dennis Gage riding in the backseat of a blue 50 Ford convert??  That's my friend Skips.  He was driving, I was riding shotgun, and Dennis Gage asked if they could film from the backseat.  Spent about an hour getting a number of shots.  It was alot of fun.  The sad part is, it was filmed in the very small, quaint town of Bay St Louis,  which was my favorite in the whole gulf coast area, and from what I understand, no longer exists.  Very sad.

Let me know if you're coming down here to the Tampa show. No sense in trying to find a motel, I've got room here at the house. It'll save you some money that you'll need for gas. (Unless you want to stay on the beach; Not advisable during hurricane season.) If you need help finding a room give me a holler and I'll see what I can do.

Find the Florida State Fairgrounds on I-4 just east of Tampa if you're looking it up on a map site. Exits 5-7.

My Parents and sister are both getting soaked by Hurricane Ophelia right now. Not a major storm yet but enough of an annoyance just the same.

The Arkansas Rod Run is still on for the first weekend in October at Lake DeGray State Park at Arkadelphia Arkansas (1 hour south of Little Rock).  It's a super event in a beautiful setting and would be a good alternative to some of those cancelled.  It includes, a free cookout Friday night and a casino night Saturday night, plus some nice prizes including a SBC.  It's sponsored by the Arkansas Street Rod Association.  Email me for more info if you're interested.  Cal

Cal, I have met a few folks from the Arkansas Street Rod Association over the years. Paul Merritt is one of them and someone with a '40 Ford Pickup with a surfboard rack on top that was at Louisville the last two years. My Father worked on the Degray Dam back in the 1960's. I am going to be busy that weekend helping my Mom at an arts and crafts event around the old Courthouse in Vicksburg where she will have a craft booth.

Hi Al,

Had dinner with Paul & Dottie Merritt last week.  He added on to his shop this year and is trying to finish a 34 sedan with a 6.0 Caddy in it.  Roger Felty is the 40 PU guy with surfboard on top.  He is trying to finish a 50 woodie and I'm hard at my 47 woodie project.  Our plan is to caravan with a bunch of other guys out to Wave Crest, the big woodie meet in Encinitas, California (just north of San Diego) next September.  Cal

Yes, that's the one.  I've heard Bay St Louis mentioned over and over in the news and papers.  Very sad.

I really like Dennis (at least his on-camera persona, since we've never met).  Clearly he's partial to restored and especially all-original cars, but he can appreciate a good custom or rod.

That was my head and shoulders showing on the front passenger seat.  Funny story, my friend Skip who owns the car is a little hard of hearing.  He was suppose to start slowing moving forward when Dennis said a certain word.  Well he kept missing his cue.  Finally I said I'd squeeze his knee when Dennis said the magic word, which I did, so the shot was finalized.  For the whole rest of the weekend every so often Skip would say the cue word wanting me to squeeze his knee.   Great weekend!  I love that area.  It's such a shame what has happened.
