it was under a Lincoln Mark VII. not sure what year,
late 80's or real early 90's.

tag has the following info.

top line: G X  B U 3 MO 5

bottom line: 27   A75S 407C

did a google search, not much help.  :?
I know one of you guys can tell me what I bought.

got it pretty cheap, hope I can use it.  8)

Thanks Denny, I done tried that, but my info
ain't one of the choices.  :(

near as I can tell, using the info from enjenjo's site,
its a 7.5 inch, non-locking, with a 3:05 ratio.

if the numbers break down the same  :?

but what do I know, after all, I did buy a "Street Beast"  :x

I think you are missing some letters and numbers at the beginning of the tag.

I think it should be WGX BU. In which case it is most probably a 7.5" carrier, as the ones I have on my list that fall into that series are all 7.5" housings. Do the gears load from the front or the back?

Could very well be, it was raining while it was being pulled.
I will take the tag off tomorrow and verify the numbers.

gears load from the rear, has a rear cover just like all
the 7.5 and 8.8's.

forgot to find out what year the Lincoln was, like I said, it
was raining, and I wanted to get it before the junkyard dude
changed his mind on the price

Thanks to all for the help so far  :D

Don't the MarkVIIs have the independent rear like the T-birds?

some of them could have, but this one definitely has a 7.5".
or 8.8".

this one is prolly a 7.5"
the track width is almost the same as my 8.8" drum rear end.

guess I'll get the drum rear out, slide the disc in, and
see what lines up or doesn't line up.

Thanks for the helps fellars  :)

With both wheels/hubs off the ground spin one wheel/hub.
(An on-car test requires the trans be in neutral.)
If the other hub goes the same way, it's a locker.
If the other hub turns the opposite it's an open.

Be aware that this test works ok if the diff is in good shape, a damaged one can give the wrong indications for either locker or open diff.

For the ratio, if it's a locker spin the wheel one revolution and count the pinion shaft revolutions and take note of any fractions of a pinion revolution.
3 3/4 revolutions of the pinion equal a 3.73 or so rear diff.

For an open diff, put one wheel on the ground or lock it in place.
Spin the wheel one revolution and count the pinion revolutions.
A one and 1/2 turn of the pinion indicates a 3.00 diff.
The spider gears take up half the revolutions so you have to double the pinion count.
