Hi again...
I have a 700 R-4 that I have had for several years.  It supposedly came out of a Suburban that was totaled.  It had about 70K miles on it.  What can I do before adding the oil and bolting it in to insure that it is ok?  Is there such a thing as a test bed at the Transmission shops to check it out?  Is there anything I can do as far as pull the pan and look for something specific?  Would I be just as far ahead to take it to a shop and say " Go thru it"?  It is the one I'm putting in the "54 pick-up.

not all shops have a tranny dyno to run the tranny on.  Some shops will not run an outsider trannys on their dyno for fear of metal trash getting into the dyno's tranny  oil system

Pulling the pan for inspection , removing the filter , braking the filter open to inspect the debris inside is what I would do.
