Can anyone tell me the thickness of sheet metal, Gauge..= Millimetre..

16 gauge = ??mm
18 gauge = ??mm
20 gauge = ??mm

?? gauge = 1.15mm
?? gauge = .75mm

:? I have to order some zinc seal sheet and get asked – what size (how thick)? And when I say – "do you have 18 gauge in stock?" I get- we have .75mm in stock, we will have to order other sizes for you. :(

Any link to a chart of thickness / gauge?

To make it even harder I didn't even know there was an 18 ga.. I thought there was only 12, 16, 20, and 410. I haven't the slightest idea how that compares to calibers. I'm not prepared to argue the point with anyone that is prepared to show me. GPster

 well the girl on the phone said- "we have .75mm z/s in stock, umm, I think its 22gauge" (she didn't sound too sure about it).

maybe some one knows Imperial size = gauge  and I could convert Imp to metric? just to get an idea.

If you have a machinest hand book or could find one it tells you. Then you will have to convert to metric from thousands. I had a chart in my tool box but I dont have the box after the breakin.

Just a bit of esoteric trivia here, we are talking about shotguns are we not??   :D   There was an 18 guage not popular and probably very rare now.  Tey also made 10 guages and those babies had a kick.  Back in the erly days they made them as large as 4 guage that were mounted on boats and could do a job on a flock of waterfowl while at rest.  Not too sporting, that.

Never could figure out why the industry can't settle on a standard for thickness of sheet metal.  It is a PITA to convert from decimals to fractions, to guage and then throuw in metric.  Printed tables are available.

Trivia question. How was the "gauge" of metal originally determined?

I have a cannon that was my greatgrandfather's that shoots 10 guage blank blackpowder shells.  It was use to start yatch races in Ottawa around the turn of the century.

Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.
I\'ve traveled a long way and some of the
roads weren\'t paved.
