The paint was sanded away so a piece of 18 ga. metal could be spot welded inside of the car. Oringally a hunk of wood about 2-1/2" square was the structure in the rear pillar. This was removed and replaced with a metal piece that looked just like the wood. It was made up of 3 pieces of 1/8" metal welded into a box section. This was welded to the outter skin to complete the box section. The doubler spot welded to the outter skin is so the box could be welded to it No weld is shown on the outside of the car. Only the spot weld shows which is easy to finnish. Works great when removing wood and replacing it with metal. You can also see three small tabs that were welded to the door and body to keep the door where it should be after the wood was removed.

Will have to look up the size. I think they are 13" wide
