This trunk latch is out of a 94 Malibu. The black is ground, the black with white stripe is pos but I haven't a clue on the orange with black stripe. Nothing happens when I test with the orange. The black striped throws the solenoid. Thanks, Frank

When is a trunk not a trunk...when it's ajar. My guess would be for a warning light,  Jbird 8)

Possibly a circuit running to an idiot light on the dash letting you know the trunk is open...? :?
That's my humble guess... :)

Thanks Guys; A friend at Chevy looked it up in addition and also/kinda stated that the book said, a trunk light. That being the case I'd suspect that it is in fact a trunk operated light. Probably like was mentioned, an idiot lamp, for when the trunk is ajar.
Now if I can just figure out the circuit and/or how the juice runs, to have this effect, I'll get it hooked up. Maybe that's another thread............Tanks, Frank

That's what I'm thinking, like a dome light. I'll check it out and report.
I do notice that if I switch the apparent wire position, the solenoid still activates but differently.
More investigation, it's what I like....................Frank

That's the same switch I am using in my '48. Got mine from an Olds Alero. I can check tonight, but one of ht ewires going to the switch is as a couple others have said a switched ground for the light in the trunk. At least that's what I am using mine for.
