My brother and I had helped some friends locate and purchase a 36 Ford sedan that was an older street rod but a well built car for its day.  I think they have owned it a little over a year.  The wife grew up two house down on the street where I live.  I have known her most of her life.  She was driving the car a lot and that's why they bought it as they wanted a driver.  Recently she was hit in the side by a driver with no license and no insurance. The dog and her were not hurt. They are going to have the car repaired.

How can people operate vehicles without a drivers license and without insurance?  It is not an oddity where I live.  This is not the society I grew up in.

It's the same here in IL, and I'm sure all over the US.  Why do I have to have "uninsured and underinsured" motorist insurance?  I read stories all the time about people with no insurance, license and even registration. They should lose thier car until they get it, and it should be non cancelable.

Sad the car is so damaged and how it happened.

In the mid 1980s my wife started her career in working for City of Phoenix muni court as support staff managing the cash that came in for traffic courts.  At that time per the city's own statistics there was 35% of the vehicles around you daily in traffic that had serious violations. No drivers license, no insurance, warrants, expired plates, stolen vehicle.. That is one third of all traffic. That was 40 yrs ago. I doubt it is better now?

Also in mid 80s I worked at a transmission shop... a young fellow there explained to us he had no drivers license (revoked) by Arizona. Yet: it was not his fault. The police hated him. He was never doing anything wrong when he was stopped for violations.

When I think about building a glass car and look at those pics, I want to forget that I had that idea. :)

Glad everyone's OK, nothing is more important than that. Also I'm glad they're going to rebuild it, but what a heartbreak.
