Quote from: "kb426"You guys have me beat on the magazines. I started thinning about 15 years ago. I was a weak beginner compared to Charlie. :)

I admit it...I've been a string saver pretty much since I was a teenager. It's catching up to me now...LOL.

Now as a sidebar: do you intend to sell your hot rod before you can't drive or just can't enjoy it anymore?

I wonder if an old veterans home might like a bunch of old car magazines . Heck by the time my family heeds to let the magazines go they may be a hot commodity again , look what has happened to vinyl records lately . With magazines being recently phased out Maybe they will find a similar resurgence in a few decades . I wont hold my breath waiting. As for selling a hot rod , I still have to get one finished first

I was talking to a coworker recently.  He showed me a few slot cars he picked up at a general swap meet.  I did not know he collected them. The small ones about 2 inches long  and what I refer to as mid size slot cars.  I still have my slot cars from the 1960's ..

Any way I asked how many he had from collecting them from when he was about 10 yrs old..  "Oh , I have probably close to 4,000 cars of various sizes" ... he is in his mid 50's now.

   :!:

My shop/garage is pretty crowded, to put it nicely. My wife asked me a while back what happens to all the stuff and cars if I suddenly die. I told her it won't matter to me, I'll be dead. I said let my brothers, I have three, pick through it and take what they want, then make someone's day, let them buy the junk and cars, if they are still there, for cheap just to get rid of it. Then pull a dumpster up and scrap the rest.....I won't care, I'll be dead.

Until Covid, I took my car magazines to the cancer center.  Everyone really liked having them there.  You do a lot of sitting around during treatment, and many have their family member(s) with them.  The hospital in general did not care about getting them, but the cancer center did. I worked 35 years in the hospital, and tried giving them to all areas, but Cancer was the only one that liked them.  Hopefully at some point we can have magazines out for the public in medical locations again.

Hello;
Well, funny you all mention selling collections!
I just came to the realization that my Model Airplane Control Line stuff that I have had since I was 9 Years old, had to go!! First I asked myself "What would the wife do if I died and she was faced with this?" GIVE IT AWAY!!! She has no idea its worth!
So Im selling out to the empty boxes!!! Its kinda hard but I'll never be able to enjoy that again!!
I am also looking at other "collections" That need to be thinned out or all together GONE TOO!!
TIME TO SELL ALL FOR WHAT I CAN AND ENJOY THE MONEY!!!!
Recently sold my 1967 Olds Convertible and made an additional 3K more than what I paid for it!!!! YAHOO!! CASH!!!!
NEXT, My 57 Chevy!!!

Two years ago I sold most of my Model Airplane stuff.
Not much market for control line stuff and no market for gas model engines ( I had about 40 engines)
No market for old radios.
So I basically gave that stuff away at model swap meets.
Got good prices for older radio control plane kits (had many).
Kept a few large R/C planes to hang in the shop.
Good luck.
Some people try to turn back their odometers
Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.
I\'ve traveled a long way and some of the
roads weren\'t paved.
