Is anyone going to Bonneville?

Since Hooley isn't running at Bonneville this year, I didn't make any plans to attend. Through the wonders of cell phones, I was reminded with cloud photos that last year at this time I was on my way there. I was fine until those darn photos popped up. Now I have this last minute urge to go. I am trying to put aside that urge by going somewhere else (Tri-Five Nationals), but the salt is calling me. Over the years I have made other racing friends at Bonneville, so I would have another pit to call home if I went. I need a 974 (Hooley's car #) speed fix.

I would love to be going, but not a chance this year.  I have several friends on other boards that are going though.  Stop by the Salt Cat guys and say hello.  They are running the Jag again this year rather than the lakester.

I have been watching the salt camera.  http://meso1.chpc.utah.edu/station_cameras/bflat_cam/bflat_cam_current.jpg  There is more activity today.  The weather looks good for racing.

My participating days are over but I might spectate someday.  I am hoping the Flatcad will run again.

If you're a salt guy, that camera view is wonderful. :)

John,
Your camera shot isn't helping my desire to go decrease.

I can hear the motors now - at the 4 mile marker and at full throttle.

I better get to the garage and think about something else.

I have the video on my phone, when you and I stood on the salt one morning last year and watched Danny Thompson go by on his backup run at over 400 mph.  I watch and listen to that video often.  There is nothing like the sight and sound of a streamliner pulling hard in the early morning light at Bonneville.

Years ago, I saw a clip of Al Teague rolling along at 400 +. The sound and the rooster tails were way cool. Sounds at Bonneville will educate you. :)

I am a couple years from another visit to the salt.  Some times life gets in the way.

I keep looking at the salt flat camera shot.  I am trying to figure out the direction of the shot, where the camera is located, and what vehicles are just barely visible in the shot.  The general view is easy to see as it is pointed across the race area but just exactly where in relation to the courses, the pits, and the starting line is a mystery to me.   I think I will call Sumner later today.  I bet he has figured out this camera view.

I do not remember if the landracing board is doing the live broadcasting this year.  I have my computer and my audio system in my shop tied together so that I can listen to NASCAR, Drag Racing, or Bonneville streaming while I am in the shop.
