I thought I saw a straight walled aluminum driveshaft in a Ford F150 in the salvage yard last week. I went back this afternoon and all I can find are stepped diameter shafts. What I found was in a 2001 and 1998 F150. The yoke on the front looks quite big.

I want to shorten one. If I use one of the stepped shafts for a donor I will need to put the big diameter yoke on both ends. I need it very short. If I try to use the rear of the shaft, the point where the tube changes diameter will probably wind up right where I need to splice.

I am going to need a U-joint to go to a GM 350 sized yoke on the front and a 1988 Ford F150 yoke in the back.

Should I be looking at GM or Mopar shafts? Any input would be appreciated. I don't want to break the bank on this, but I need a lightweight shaft. I was planning to do the cutting and welding.

All of them I looked under had steel. I will look harder.
I would guess the late 90's? That is what is in the yard I frequent.
Thanks

Mid to late 90s. Aerostar used a similar shaft

There isn't an Aerostar in the place. I had read those had them.
