I need rear spring shackles that are about 1 inch longer than what I can find available.   Is there a specific type of steel that should be used to make my own?  I'm not a metalurgist (sp) so not sure what to use.  Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks.
I am CDO, kinda like OCD, but in alphabetical order, like it should be!

In the past I have made them from mild steel. You might check at a trailer supply, they make shackles in several lengths.

I made them out of hot rolled steel before. I think the bolts are more important than the shackle.
