I'm having trouble with my Edelbrock 600 carb and want to put a pressure reg. in line. Should I get the 1 to 4 lbs. or the 4.5 to 9 psi unit. It's a near stock 302" Ford with headers and bored .030 over. Thanks

I went with the 1-5 and run it around 3, IIRC.  350 Chevy.

my experience with AFB and edelbrock type carbs , is under 5 psi is better.  Carbs seem to run cleaner, better.

I have a Jeg's Ford chrome fuel pump  ( stock style) but no one knows what pressure it puts out. They may be too much from the factory.

I found on the few Edelbrock 's I used that anything over 5 lbs was too much pressure for the needle / seat so I ran them at about 4 lbs. Still fon't like them, like Rochesters! :D

WHY would edelbrock make a carb that needs that LOW pressure when even the stock ford fuel pump puts out 7 to 9 psi.??? This is screwed up.

I started the '58 today, it's been quite a while.  Ran bad, had a heavy dead spot when taking off.  I've got a 305 out of the '83 Trans Am that I stripped, and it's got the same carb on it, so I switched them rather than work on mine.  Hmmm...I thought I had a phenolic block under my carb, but nothing...it was mounted right on the manifold. The 305 had an aluminum plate like I'd never seen before, and it apparently the carb is set up much better than mine.

The 305 has a Qjet manifold and mine has an Edelbrock Performer. *...the old '58 really moves now. The pressure is set right at 3#.

Yup, you're right...why would they? Nevertheless, if you run more than about 5 pounds pressure you're going to have loading up problems. Again, I don't like Edelbrock carbs.

Keep in mind that Ford didn't use Edelbrocks/Carters from the factory. Mostly Autolite/Motorcrafts, some Holleys but no Edelbrocks.

My Holley 600 needed a regulator installed also. The factory fuel pumps were pushing 9 psi. Runs great at around 4.5 psi.
