Looking at a 1974 Chevy Nova that has all the original smog equipment removed. It passes the sniffer test at the exhaust end according to owner. Was wondering about how strict they are about visually checking for original smog equip if I have to get it inspected. Been a long time since having an older car tested. In Colorado.

Depends on the state. In Ohio, where emissions tests are required, they check equipment first, and if any is missing they won't even do a sniffer test.

Thanks, emissions testing is required here, so this probably won't pass.

last I heard, if it passes the sniffer (on a car that old,pre 75)you're good to go depending on what plates you want to run, the "visual" doesn't matter anymore, I guess.

MIL/CEL doesn't count for much either
I'm not much help as it changes every 5 min. and they don't tell us squat
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it\'s still on my list
