Ford E4OD trans

This weekend I am picking up a nice 95 F150 with a fried E4OD,what all years was that trans made and is there a better year of trans to get.

1995 & up is better...  Ford did running updates.  Some retro fit backwards with proper parts match up to 1989 units.

With 1995 , you should have much better unit.  

I forget which year had a mechanical diode in place for a sprag. the diode is a disaster.  Even Ford removed the diode

in 1999 Ford was changing over to the 4R100 which is a E4OD with more lectronics.

Depending on how you control the unit with OEM or aftermarket computer will dictate on the solenoid pack needed. The primary difference is converter lockup strategy

I believe if you change to a 95 and up trans, you need to change the plug for the trans controller. I did one a few years ago, and got the conversion harness with instructions from Ford.
