For some reason lately, no one seems to have the parts I need in stock. From filters to oil seals, from gears to fuel pumps, no one seems to have common parts in stock. In some cases even my second source  is out of stock. I'm starting to wonder what is going on. Any one else with this problem?

Absolutely. It seems like nearly everything I need has to be ordered.

No problem around here, recently I have bought struts, springs, strut mounts, brake lines, filters and even a G. M. Ignition switch all in stock at O'Reillys, Advance and Autozone.

Well, in most cases they might as well not be in stock because they aren't of sufficient quality to warrant purchase. Lately it's been bum alternators, thermostats, starters, electric fuel pumps, lever type brake light switches, brass brake fittings....and that's just what comes to mind. Two weeks ago I went to 4 parts stores for lug nuts - finally went to Belle Tire before I found any.

It's at crisis level for simple stuff.

you guys are not imagining..   somebody has gotten into the parts system who does not have a clue.. or is angry...

i spend a lot of time on the AZ website..  but its also up in the manufacturers web sites so i think its the cataloging company..

they have hidden the fuel pump relays  from the fuel system section..

they moved the ignition switches from electrical to starting and charging.

there are whole bunch of other changes.. but i don't have any current contacts who actually believe me..

i have worked many years ago for a company who's ordering staff did the same thing within the company..  they looked at sales numbers and not the actual application info..  they did not have any brake parts for the newest models..  pads and shoes..  yet.. they had 4 different qualities of brake pads for chevy chevettes.. i created a list on my own time that reduced the parts on the shelf by 64 numbers and picked up 25 numbers just in brake pads.. and i was written up for wasting company time.  it was above my job to do such a thing..   the ordering staff heard about it.. they actually got store staff to sandbag me until i just quit.

i even talked to a friend who was zone manager about C and D selling parts being stocked at every other store since there were so many stores locally. ..  again.. NO..  so they stock C and D at every store.. at least until recently..   its really crazy to have a full inventory of HVAC hoses and condensers at every store..  when there are 5 stores within 5 miles.

there are many other examples of this .. i just picked out the obvious ones.
