  I remember being a little kid in the early 60's and reading in
Readers Digest about Art Arfons.

I met both of them in the early 60s when they were racing here in Toledo at the old airport dragstrip. One of my friends at work, worked for Walt's son on his days off.

There was a pair of local brothers that took the record away from them for a short time in the late 50s at 180mph. Their last name was Stoll, and they lived on a farm about 5 miles from where I live now. E J Potter ended up with the car. The Allison drove forward into a gear box, with a torque converter, and the driveshaft ran down the car to an offset truck rearend. All farm built.

They also had a Henry J with a straight 8 Buick in it.
