I wonder if anyone can help me.
A friend has a '91 Dodge Dakota and he thinks it needs timing.
He says there are two marks on the pully. One is a groove and the other is teardrop shaped.
Which is the correct one to use?
Thank you for any information.

1991 Dodge Dakota 2WD:

Available engines
4 Cylinders G 2.5L TBI
6 Cylinders X 3.9L FI
8 Cylinders Y 5.2L FI

which engine.. ???

since you probably have a V6 or V8 as both of those use 10 degrees..   be sure that the engine is at operating temp .. and then disconnect the coolant temp switch to set the timing.. this locks the computer timing out..

i know what you ask... looking at this picture...

its probably the longer slot...

the timing pointer marks are lined up like this,

-10
-
-
-0

-
-10

the longer slot looks like it lines up with the crank woodruff key...

the timing cover should look like this..

you will WANT TO FLIP THE ignition key on, off, ON. off, ON, off, ON    3 times ON in under 20 seconds to make the check engine or power loss light flash codes...

they are all 2 digit codes.. write them down.. if any come up.. post them or google them..
