Is it safe to bypass a trans cooler to limp home

I put a wrong year radiator in my car after it got hit because it was free and I had to rig the cooler lines a little and it developed a leak on a road trip today,can the trans cooler in the radiator be bypassed in a emergency without doing any damage to limp home. I was going to bypass it or run a loop of fuel line in front of the radiator to get home but my repairs fixed the problem but  how far can one be driven without a cooler if not hauling anything heavy.

as long as there is flow, many cars don't even have a cooler.

I agree.  As long as there's fluid flow and you don't abuse it you won't burn it up.
