I'm not having a lot of luck finding a local source for forged 1/2" x 6" eye bolts.  I need something stronger than the wire eye bolt at every hardware store.  I did find an online source at $9.64, is that a reasonable price?

I am not sure I would consider it reasonable. But I have been looking for some 3/16 x 1 1/2" forged eye bolts. The closest I have come is 10/32 X 2 in 304 stainless and they were $6 each. So that is a reference frame for you.

Have you looked at Mcmaster-Carr? They have a bunch of eye bolts.

Fair enough then.  Looks like the pricing is what it is...forged, high strength hardware isn't going to be cheap.  I'll probably do some more checking with small hardware stores and the farm store tomorrow...if no go then put in an order to McMaster-Carr.

1/2-13 X 6" warning. even these only have a safe lifting rating of just over 2,000 pounds.. with the bolt straight.. not at an angle..

there are several variations in materials and with or without shoulder

overall length is over 8 inches as 6 inches is the shank length...

i had gotten some swivel ring eyes . that were incredible..

i wonder where they are now..

You might try Tractor Supply, they show them at $8.99 in your zip.

If you can find CROSBY brand, I would use them. I worked in construction for years and used these to lift heavy loads.

I used to design machinery & Carr Lane Manufacturing had a one piece eye bolt of different sizes. Usually, the shank diameter was the same as the eye. :D

I wanted to check my memory & Carr Lane Manufacturing does have the eye bolt and a swing bolt in on their on line catalog. You can do a search or they are in the Studs, Bolts, & T Nuts Section. :D

I found the ones I wanted at a farm supply store not too far from here.  I hadn't had an opportunity yet to go in there.  I love those places, if you're going to sell to farmers you'd better not try to take advantage of them on the pricing and they know their hardware.
