I have dropped a lobe off the cam in my new Hemi and would like to take the oppertunity to fit a blower cam to it, what are your ideas on what spec cam I should be looking for?

And where can I get one in a hurry?

Cheers
Andrew
If you can\'t fix it with a hammer, you\'ve got an electrical problem

That's a wide open question. How about all the particulars of your engine?

Sorry it was late last night when I posted that question.

331 1955 hemi
9:1 compression
vehicle weight 1100kgs
hydraulic cam
1800rpm stall converter
4:11 diff ratio
30" tall tyres
6psi boost

Is that better? :D

I might get these letters wrong but wouldn't it be helpful to making a cam profile to know if the engine will be run on LPG or gasoline? I'd also wonder if a cam profilepredicates a type of exhaust  and you probably already have an exhaust so maybe the profile could fit what you already have? These are questions from a person that always used junk yard engines and if the run they will probably make it move. GPster

one warning..    392 cams will fit.. but won't work in the 354 and smaller motors do to the change in lifter angles in the block when they went to the 392 motors....

i posted that info a while back..

you might want to download this early hemi catalog .. just for reference.

the prices have changed..  the part numbers have probably changed..  but the info and pictures is what you want...  i don't know how long its going to be up and available..  so save a copy...

were you able to get an email from joey over at american???

you will also want to look in at this link... shows the rebuild in color of a early hemi..

Wasn't your 331 enlarged to 354?

Yes Bruce but the block is a 331, and that is what you need to specify when ordering.

I've got one on the way from Hot Heads, Bob was a great help

And thanks Wayne, I have saved all those links to my favourites now.

There has been some note lately about early "Hemi"s and oil pump problems and Hot Heads. There was quite an extensive explanation here by Skip about his problem with a supposedly up-graded oil pump and distributor drive and the cover coming off an oil pump. I don't know the oil flow through the galleries in a "Hemi" but lack of oil could certainly be a cause for a failure. Skip has been around a long time and he's not new to "Hemi"s so his warnings are credible. I have read his warning on another site (under another name) where his information would be helpful to people trying to use Old School powerplants. Skip's information was, I seem to remember, not under a subject where you would note it. So you might not have seen it so look under his recent posts. GPster

Maybe a little J-B weld & some time with some crocus cloth

From the looks of the other lobes , That was maybe a bad cam from the start  :?:  The other lobes look go to go a long way ..... :?

( Be sure & keep the "lumpy" parts .... )

with that much cam lobe removed...  if its only one lobe..  and the core is hard to get..   a cam grinder might be able to weld the top of that lobe back up. but it looks fairly far gone..  they do weld lobes on some cams.. i have seen it done..

i am hoping that i mentioned about the super magnets in the oil pan .. so catch any iron fragments before they get run through the pump..  as filters are not always 100% all the time.. there is usually bypass flow when the oil is cold..
