I am working with a 50 Mercury and found some scratches in the rear window. I was wondering if anyone here might have experience with polishes and/or technics to remove them. They are not real deep, but certainly will be noticed on the finished car. I would hate to have to replace the rear glass for a few scratches. Thanks in advance for your help! Rick

I repaired some glass this last spring.  I used the materials that Eastwood sells.  The scratches I fixed were much too deep for normal repair but each of the windows were $400 so I thought I would give it a try.  I actually started by water sanding with successive grits of fine wet and dry paper using lots of water.  Then I began buffing the glass.  It took a couple of days on the front and back glass but I figure I made pretty good wages.  A penny saved is a penny earned.  Although I removed the deep scratches the glass is now distorted some especially if you look at the glass from an angle.

The minor scratches caused by the wipers in the front windshield were relatively easy to fix and show no distortion.

If you have specific questions, you can ask.

Thanks John!

I will check with eastwood for product and then get to the sanding! These scratches don't look too deep, so sounds like your method should do the trick. Rick

I used the Eastwood kit on my Stude. It made the windshield a whole lot better, but, it still needs to be replaced. I recommend their kit.

I would try the buffing with the special compound before I did any sanding if I were you.  If you can avoid the sanding, you will have better results.  I only sanded the scratches because they were so deep and I had nothing to lose.

Sounds great. These scratches are fairly light. Hoping the polish will do the trick! Rick
