Noisy Electric Fuel Pump ??

Today I drove my Deuce 5 window over to Goodguys in Charlotte.  This was the first trip of any distance it has been on.  Things were all good and I'm pleased with my first time effort, EXCEPT...the * electric fuel pump makes a racket that seriously detracts from the enjoyment.  It's a Holley blue pump, mounted to the frame rail just behind the door on the passenger side.  I have it mounted with a rubber cushion between it and the rail and it still makes way too much noise.  I had to use an electric pump because the frame is pinched and there isn't room for a mechanical pump.  Looking for suggestions on how to make this thing quieter.  Are all electric pumps generally loud or is it just because it's a Holley?  Are there other brands that are quieter?  Anybody want to buy a very slightly used Holley blue pump?  Thanks.

Humm, well all my electric fuel pumps have been 'noticeable'.

I've always kinda liked knowing they were running.

I always switch to on and listen for my pumps to pump up to the carb when the sound actually changes.

Guess some sound deadening stuff around and over your pump might help.

rubber under the bracket??? might not be enough...

frame.. rubber, pump bracket, rubber , washer , nut..

just to give you an idea...

i get them from some small ford and honda window regulators...   there are many different hardnesses of the rubber... softer is better...
i have also found some on ac condensers on imported cars in the junk yard.. they were really soft.. but i don't remember what they came off of...


but be sure to run a super flex/ test lead wire around the base to the top nut..  so if the mount breaks... the pump won't drag.. it also keeps the pump body grounded.

I made a mount with 3 shock absorber rubber bushings that fit into metal tubes that mount to the frame. The mount is made from round bar but a better idea would be to make it out of fuel line filled with sand and capped off.fuel pump mounts to that with rubber under the band clamp and rubber washers between the clamp and the mount.I hope it works,Ive never tried it.

My opinion.

That Holley pump is probably more than you need.  I have had problems with these also.  I tried a lot of stuff and although I made it quieter, it never was quiet enough.  Unless you have a motor that requires an extreme amount of fuel,  one of the cheaper (quiet) pumps from an auto parts store should do fine.  These have worked for me on high performance street motors.

by the way...   i ran across this on a search for electric fuel pumps a while back...
this is an in the tank pump... that looks like it might be added to the end of almost any fuel sending unit pickup tube..

bolting one end to the frame... and the other end to the pump bracket.

As prev suggested, shock mount it.
I had one of these pumps rattling away on the frame.  Made up a mounting bracket, and this bracket was fitted up with some rubber shock mounts I got from an electronics parts store ,they had threaded bolts either end.  I also remember considering  rubber grommet mounting technique as used by some electric wiper brackets.
Remember to run an earth wire from the pump housing to frame if a single wire pump.
My pump was mounted up near the tank.
I also made sure that the inlet and outlet lines were rubberised fuel line also . to keep ant line transmitted noise down.   For good measure you can consider "double" insulating.
Fabricate a shock mounted bracket. And then attach the pump to this with the same insulators again.........Frank.

If you get another one, get a Mallory. They are quieter and have a longer life. Mine is mounted a little further back than yours, but the sound it makes is not that noticeable. The Holley red unit I had (the one that puked out and left me stranded) could be heard. I cannot recommend a Holley pump on a street driven car.

Go ahead...Bolt one of these to your frame  :? ...I dare ya ...I double dog dare ya  :!:

Think cheap import  1/4" electric drill mounted on your frame rail..   Sounds just about the same ...Note the "insulating " bushings ...( They last forever & "insulate" nothing ) . My kid's Dodge was originally built with one of these ..After the third one the car was converted to a stock 1970 Ford fuel pump...
Dont get me wrong ...They are GREAT fuel pumps ...( We actually had one pump small "pebbles" to the filter in the front of the car  :!:    )
Noisy ?  WHOOOOO-EEEEEE...........
