What's the best way to remove galvanizing so you can weld on the underlying steel?

I don't know if it's the "best" way, but i use a disc grinder to clean the area to be welded. I do a large enough area to include the area that will get hot enough to make the galvanising smoke.

Just be careful, cuz the fumes will make you woof your cookies.

Thanks.  Grinder was my first thought, just wanted to get another opinion that it would remove the galv instead of just smearing it around.  I have enough things to worry about without breathing zinc fumes.

Muriatic Acid will remove Galvanizing, make sure you have plenty of ventilation.
