I need to score an AOD trans for a customer project, 40 Ford, 302 with a C4 right now. He wants an overdrive in the finished car.

Are there any specific years I want to look for or avoid?

Thanks,

Don

The early 80's version has no electrics, just a tv cable to hook up. That's the simplest but I don't know if it's the best.

Don, here is some info I saved. I am using an AOD in my 53 F100 and really like it. I have a C4 in my 46 coupe and another AOD waiting to install. Any time I am in the 46 I am waiting for the final shift. LOL. I am interested in maybe an AODE in the future, I understand there is a stand alone control for those now. Joe

I just installed one from a 90  or 91 Lincoln.  It is the plain AOD  with no electric wiring,  just the TV cable.  There is wiring for the built in neutral safety switch (I'm sure you of all people are in favor of those)  and also for back up lights.
Works fine, although I keep it in just drive for around town and only use the OD on the highway.  5.0 liter Mustang engine in 71 Ford SWB pickup with CPU and fuel injection.
