I am new here and was hoping someone could answer my transmission question.  I have an 86 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4.  everything was running fine until I sttopped in a parking lot in my neighborhood to talk to a friend.  When I got out of the truck I heard what I thought was water pouring from my radiator but it was transmission fluid...A LOT OF IT.  Needless to say I had it towed home and removed the bellhousing and when I start the engine the fluid runs out between the tourque conv. and the tranny.  I don't know much about transmissions and was hoping to get a few tips or ideas before I started to remove the tranny and get it rebuilt or put new seals in myself.  thanks for any help..

Sounds like the front seal for the converter hub blew out.

Installing a new seal will NOT repair the root cause of the problem.  That requires pump removal . Then  disassembly to perform a few mods to the pump body with new bushing too.
