Does Gm build the a diode into the switch to shut down the alternator? I have just run into the "won't shut off" when you turn off the key. The only other time I ran into this was when I changed my 9n Ford tractor to a alternator. I have a late model gm column with the switch on it. I have just jumped wires on the column to get this to run. I have not wired it properly yet.

If you hook the idiot light wire to the accessory side of the switch instead of the ignition side, the problem goes away.  No diode needed.

To the world you\'re just one person; but to one person, you might be the world.

I hooked to the "acc" side AND used a diode per Frank.
