I am trying to reassemble a pontiac 455 that came to me in pieces.  I am needing information on how the water pump installation to the housing and the housing to the intake manifold is done.  There are some seals involved which I need to confirm are installed correctly.  Can anyone point me to an exploded view of a 400/455 engine or walk me through it?

it depends on what year.... and if you have a one piece plate.. or the 2 piece plate...

the grommets/seals push into the timing cover and seal and direct the pump output into the block... sealing the plates to the timing cover...

i did a google image search for pontiac water pump plates...

somewhere there i saw a custom timing cover for a poncho... that uses a chevy small block water pump...

there is also a seal... that looks like a thick garden hose washer that goes between the timing cover and the front of the intake manifold... this gets pinched in with a long bolt with a plate that looks like a small block chevy valve cover hold down load spreader.....

the timing cover has to go on before the intake... just in case you have already started hanging parts...  as this washer/ seal locates the intake fore aft.....  or it will leak...

here is an image of the 3 different timing covers
