Does anybody know how many quarts of gear lube it will take to fill up my 8" Ford rear end after a gear change. I know to fill it until it starts to run out of the fill plug.
Thanks in advance !!!

did you put a big strong magnet inside the housing or a magnetic fill plug??

the magnets keep the metalic wear particals out of suspention in the oil.

keeps them out of the bearings...
almost every manufacturer puts tehm in .. although one brand has dropped the ball and uses a short strip of ceramic magnet.. (like the stuff magnetic signs are attached to cars with)  it does not have enough gauss (magnetic strength) to do anything..

I have a magnetic oil pan drain plug. That is a great idea to put a magnet on the fill plug, THANKS !!
Do you put the magnet on the outside or inside of the plug ?

THANKS

one thing.. if you are going to make you own magnetic drain fill plug for a rear end. because of the location  i would probably counterbore/drill  the oily end of the filler plug and epoxy the magnet in...

my brain skipped for everybody else..

i forgot to post to put the magnet in an out of the way place in the lower half of the case...where at diff oil change time you can get it out to clean it off...
