At some point, and I'm not sure where that is, they require plastic film to be added to the stock windows to keep them from coming apart.  The old book lists that for vehicles at higher speed but I heard that was being lowered...
From what I read a stock window is good to 175, but if you're building for Bonneville, it seems worth it to replace with a piece of lexan.

As long as it is "laminated safety glass" you may run it at any speed.  Retaining straps are required on front and rear windows at speeds over 175;.

The new part to the rule is:

"All vehicles must have all non-laminated safety glass windows and glass headlight lens covered with safety film, or replace the windows with polycarbonate material.  Additional bracing must be installed to prevent window blowout or collapse.

Part of this is to protect the driver and part to protect the course.  This year a window shattered on the course and it shut the course down for quite a while as people looked for pieces of glass over a long distance.

What are you building??
