The daily driver is a 95 GMC 1500 pickup I noticed that the fan blade could not turn
freely ( slight drag) when parked, I could move it but it took alot of force to do it.

Yesterday I swaped the fan blade and fan- clutch that I had off a 89 chevy van the only
difference I can see is the fan-cluth shaft is about a 1/4" longer. I dont think this will
make much difference because the blades are not within the shroud totally. I used
locktight on the hardware. Gave it a test ride everything cooled alright so far. Anyone
see a problem withit?

I drove the truck some more today ,all is well, infact now my transmission seems to
shift better.

I dont get it. What could a stuck fan/clutch have to do with the shifting of the trans?

For 4 months I thought my trans was going south, slipping. Put the fan clutch an now
things seem OK.

Its a noise issue...We get this complaint often...When the fan clutch locks up or starts dragging , you "hear" the engine wind-up between shifts...It's fan noise..When the clutch works properly & is slipping, you don't hear the fan even though the engine is going just as fast because the fan is now turning much slower........
