Does anyone know anything about a Miller Spool Mate 200 welder?  I have the opportunity to do a sealed bid on one at the insurance salvage pool.  It is water damaged.  I sure would like to be able to weld aluminium.  I have heard that a spool gun will weld okay but it is more a production machine and the finish welds are not as neat.  I would appreciate any of your thoughts.

Spool mate 200 is a good machine. the only problem, they don't make some of the parts for it any more, and if it has the original spool gun, you can't get parts for it. It can be converted to the newer style gun, but you need a interface module to do it, and it's a bit pricey.

It will weld aluminum nicely, but works best on material over .120. With practice you can go down to about .060.

If the water damage is to circuit boards, I think I would pass.

I have a spool gun attachment for my SnapOn welder, it works good with aluminum, or Stainless steel. Takes about 5 minutes to change it over.
