Any ideas on painting something, like a hood, to look like carbon fiber? I'm thinking some kind of mask to spray through, but don't know what to use.

Probably easier to use a big water decal, dunno where you'd find it in your neck of the woods but it's readily available here and I've seen heaps of fibreglass bonnets covered in the stuff.

Maybe it's time to let your fingers do the walkin' unless somebody hasd a handle on the stuff.

Not paint, Frank, but the carbon-fiber look is available on vinyl sheets, as used for sign & vehicle graphics.

Here's two suppliers:

Some dude on one of those biker buildoff shows painted fenders and a gas tank to look like carbon fiber.

He shot the black first, then stretched fishnet stockings over the parts in different ways and shot the light gray. It looked pretty real after it was cleared and done.

Dave should have the stockings if you need them... :D

I was thinking that what they really did was took the teak decking of a pontiac tuna barge and fogged black base coat on it then a flattened clear to get the cheap * carbon redneck hillbilly look. But ya know what... IT Worked.    8)

For narrow pieces, some people use fiberglas dry wall tape as a mask.
Nice small square mesh, and it's adhesive.

Earl Mich has Carbon Fiber vinyl in 15" and 30" wide.
I'm guessing they will sell in smaller quantities than 10 yards.

The only reason I know of them,is because they have supported
the Pinstripers Jambouree at the Detroit  Autorama the last couple years.

Almost any decent sign supply place will have it,or can get it.

Some day,I want to do Carbon Fiber vinyl flames on a Black car. :D

I found a place with vinyl up to 50" wide, I may go that route.

A hood. I would rather not have seams.

Any place that sells vinyl, will also have the proper squeegees for applying it.
