I have access to a 1958 Edsel. Are the axle housings in a 1958 Edsel the same width as Ford passenger cars?
The ground is damp & wet here in Atlanta and I don't feel like crawling under the vehicle to do the measuring unless that is the only way to verify the width.

Depends on the model. If it's a 4 1/2" bolt pattern, it's the same as a Ford of that year. If it's 5" bolt pattern, it's the same as a Mercury of that year.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

Thanks for your assistance. I checked the NAPA bearing book and the Edsel rear end comes with the heavy duty axle bearing normally reserved for the Ford station wagons and taxis.
I read an internet article & it said the '58 Edsels came down the same assembly line as the Fords. So there is no telling what I will find!
Thanks again

The 1958 Edsel rear end had 5" bolt circle axles. The rear end's width was aprox. 1-1/2" wider than a l959 Ford Stion Wagon rear end my friend was picking up at the place that had the Edsel.
Hope this info will help someone looking for this combination.
