I saw one a couple years ago that had chevette discs adapted to the stock axle. Looked pretty simple.
Welcome to hell. Here's your accordion.

Didn't the Hot Shot have front discs??

What size are the drums/shoes? Rear brakes are usually smaller than the front on later models. I always thought if you worked backwards (I do it a lot) and looked at the shoe size that would fit the drums then you could check the application and see what the backing plates looked like and if the would adapt. Also hydralic surge brakes for trailers are small. Too much brake and too much tire is liable to find weak places elsewhere, like the front axel. Maybe something on the rear of a FWD vehicle might work. Like an Escort? GPster

Yes the 1949 Hot Shot had 4 wheel disc brakes.  First American sports car with 4 wheel disc brakes

All Crosley cars had 4 wheel disc brakes in  1949 model year.  There were troubles with salt and snow in the calipers causing a "no brake" situation from a freeze up/ corrosion.  In the mid  1950 model year the 9 inch drum brake in my photo were introduced.

Chevrolet Vega drums have been adapted to these 9 inch  drum brakes. You must machine down the one piece  Crosley drum and hub into only a hub for the Vega drum to work.

my 1947 Crosley sedan has  4 wheel disc on it.  It looks like a factory install.  So I think it may be a retro fit kit since the 47 cars had mechanical ( cable) brakes.

From the condition of the HD  tail pipe on my Crosley , you can see the car has not run much in the last 2 years.  Engine has been on  a stand for 1 year.

My Morris has a HD muffler on it.  this one is some type of a catalytic converter
