Here's a couple pics of the project. It's starting to come together. I need to pie-cut the hood yet, but the body mods are just about done. I have to head to Iraq in about 6 weeks, and I am feeling the pressure to try and drive this thing next year. Luckily I only have to go for a couple months.

Lookin' pretty good. How much taper do ya plan on for the hood? Just a word, 1/2 to 3/4" looks dandy. Much more is a lot more difficult everywhere. I vote for 1/2".

Good job.

Thanks, Charlie. I am planning on continuing the line of the cowl. As it is now, the hood line goes up from the cowl line. I have to do some measuring to see how much that is. I plan on moving the top of the hood forward, filling in the gap at the back, rather than slanting the front of the hood at all.

Looks good so far. I pie cut the hood on my '46 2 1/2". It does cause interferance problems with the cowl, but looks so good to me. I had to cut the brace at the back of the hood, and cut and stretch the hood at the front. The best way to pie cut the hood is to tack it to the fenders before you cut it.  I'm sure you know this, but i wish i had when i cut mine; Mine fits poorly along the sides on top of the fenders.

Do you have a pic of your car? I'd like to get an idea of what that amount of cut looks like. A friend of mine who builds cars wants me to cut it a LOT. I'm not sure I want to go too much. I think I'd rather have people wonder whether or not I cut it. That's one of the reasons I only chopped it 2-1/4" and only shortened it 2-3/32. I want people to wonder what's different about the car and not be able to easily tell.

Never mind, I just went to member's rides and looked. Yours looks great. Not overly done. I may go just a little bit less, just to keep people guessing.

Thanks,

If I had it to do again, (and i might) I would  also pie cut the fire wall to make a better fit. I may be repainting the car this coming year or the next, If i do i would fix the problems I have with my hood.

I'm also thinking about cutting the firewall. I will see after I decide how much to cut.
