I was thinking about going to electric fan in place of my 6 bladed fan.  I have a 350 SBC with A/C in my 36 Dodge. I have a Walker Cobra-Z radiator. I have no cooling problems now even in traffic at 100 degrees. I thought I might pick up a few more HPs by going electric. I have a 105 amp CS-130 alternator , so I don't have a problem with powering the fan. I have a 10" pusher fan for the A/C condenser.
What do you guys think ? Give me the good , bad and ugly about doing this.
Thanks in advance,

I'm getting ready to install a fan on my 54 due to an engine change and the biggest problem I'm having is the size for a decent fan.  I found a fan with a built in shroud that's just the right size to cover the back of the radiator, but it is 4" deep.  I'm having to move the radiator forward a bit to handle it but it will give me good cooling at low speeds that a mechanical can't possibly do at idle.  The fan with shroud is rated ar 3000 cfm so I'm sure it will do fine.  One other consideration is that if I put a fan on the front of the water pump it would sit real low on the radiator and to get a decent size fan in there it would hit the tranny cooler lines.  It seems like the electric is a logical choice for cooling at low speed and better gas mileage since it shouldn't be needed at cruising speed.

I have a Spal (rated at 2700cfm) puller fan mounted to the back side of my radiator (between the radiator and the motor), a standard Walker radiator, a Sterwart High Flow water pump and it cools good. I am now using a Spal fan controller that has two temp settings on it. The low temp turns the fan on at 50% and when the temp reaches the higher temp setting, it turns the fan on at 100%. The only problem I am having is that the fan wil only turn on at 100%. There's nothing in the instructions to tell ya, but a quick e-mail to Spal yeilded a response back saying that the two temp setings had to be at least 25 degrees apart. On my VDO gauges, the water temp is hard to read. There are lines between 100 degrees and 200 degrees, but I don't know what they are. Looks like one of them is in the middle, but it's sure not 150. They are their Cockpit Royale ones. They were not at Louisville to ask them my question. Is anyone else using these gauges?

Another question I have is this: Is it bad to have both a puller and a pusher fan at the same time? I just have the puller with no mechanical fan.

A street rod is a vehicle made before 1949 that is modified with modern stuff: bigger motors; newer trans; updated suspension, front & rear; a/c.
Following is a street rod plus definition: No known definition because it changes.

Due to space constraints in my 48 Dodge I ran the Cooling Components fan and shroud assembly. Had the Walker radiator.  Had a t-stat switch that would operate the fan automatically and a manual override switch where I could turn it on whenever I want.  Did a very good job even in traffic witht he A/C on.

Why fix what isn't broke? I'd stay with the mechanical fan. Have you ever heard of one dieing like the electrics? Are you running the car on the strip? I don't think that street driving you will really see or feel the difference.

Good point ! It ain't broke and I don't run it on the strip.
My dad bought this 36 Dodge for me back in 1965 for Christmas. The Man that he got it from did the machine work for the Flathead rail we were  racing. He told my Dad that if he was going to make a race car out of it he would not sell it. We didn't and it has been a Street Rod for 41 years.  I did build it into a Street Rod. I have rebuild it a few times and will never get through improving it.
Thanks, Rick Harris

I bought that whatsyacallit brand that whatshisname on this board suggested for good air flow per amperage draw.

It works well on my 1961 Dodge Lancer .

Got an eletronic fan controller relay thingy from CarQuest
